Holerica is entering "Phase 3"

NewsPosted by Holerica Mon, August 24, 2009 13:12
Holerica is in for a new phase. Over the past years we've managed to complete two phases, as we see it. Here you get Holerica's step by step "How we did it, so far"

"Phase 1" -preparing for the stage

Gather six musicians that are prepared to work hard and spend as much time as necessary for the band. You must of course work well together as well.
Play together for a while so it sounds as tight as you want.
Compose a bunch of songs so you are ready to enter the stage and play for about 45 minutes.
Create a homepage, myspace-page and take promotion photos so that friends and other people that are interested in you (maybe before your first gig) can check you out.
Record some songs. They have to sound good, but not necessary to put down too much money at this point. If you want to get gigs, you must have something recorded or they won't book you.

We completed this phase after about FIVE years. Mainly because finding 6 persons with the right criteria is really hard.

"Phase 2" -gather experience

Now it's time to enter the stage. Use your contacts, talk to people everywhere you put your foot. Take every gig. The purpose of doing this is that you need to play in front of audience to work better as a band on stage. Need to feel confident. Maybe work out a little show to give to audience something extra. To make the audience remember you and hopefully visit your website and maybe come to another gig, you not only need good songs. A good live performance and a backdrop will make them remember your name.
Playing live has also another purpose; references. If you want bigger events to be interested in you, it can't be your first gig.
After a few gigs you also know if your music works with not only your friends, but a crowd containing more than 10 people.

"Phase 3" -adjusting your sound and record an album

Yes this is where we are now. We had a few gigs this summer and feel that if we are going to get gigs bigger than the ones we had, we must record an album and do it really good. When we record an album, we spend many hours in front of every song. It gives you time to make small changes and work on it until you are satisfied.

Getting different proposals, good and bad, is a part of your journey. Don't be afraid of turning down a proposal. There are so many guys out there that just want to make money. If you make good music, you will get a better opportunity later.

By the way, the gig last Saturday was awesome! In a barn outside Veberöd we managed to deliver a good performance to this "party gig". Thanks for the opportunity! Hope to do this again, we had a really great time!

/Henrik

No one will ever bring me down

NewsPosted by Holerica Mon, August 10, 2009 19:44

Sometimes it’s hard to be a performer…
Not everyone can love what you do, but still it hurts to hear that someone thinks that the one thing you live for is the thing your worst at (according to a recent review).

To be reviewed is a natural and important part of a bands career, but…
To hear that you are singing out of tune and that the band that you are the frontfigure of should kick you out, isn’t contributing to your career. Especially when you work as hard as we do. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a honest opinion.

After all… it’s just one opinion from one person and it is not objective. The thing that counts is to hear the audience cheering you on, and all the encouragement you get from all different kinds of people.
When two little girls comes up to me after a show and want their picture taken with me, then I know that I am damn good!

Rock on / Emelie

Hangover day

NewsPosted by Holerica Sun, August 09, 2009 23:56
Oh god i wish I didn't have to wake up this morning! Not only to mention my physical state, but the regret of how the evening had to end...

The gig was great though! I think we had the biggest audience watching our show and the feeling was just right. Even though it was a outdoor gig starting 7 pm, meaning no extra cool light effects could make any difference, we managed to pull off a good show and got positive feedback afterwards.

Hostile Cell played at the festival as well. They borrowed our guitar speaker boxes and that was alright since we already had decided to stay and watch their show. They also pulled off a good gig and had the benefit to play after the sunset.

After Hostile Cell had played we dragged a bunch of people over to my place. Everything was going good and I thought that we didn't make too much noise until i heard the door bell. The vice landlord (?) had received a call from the house 50 meters away that we made too much noise! So not my own neighbors but someone in another house made that call... not so good when I just moved here...

Well, two weeks to the next gig. See you then!

Wallrunner!

NewsPosted by Holerica Mon, July 06, 2009 21:40
That's the name on one of the songs we are going to play at Sommarrock in Svedala this Thursday. It really feels like we are running oon walls right now. We want to play more often than we do now but I guess we need a booking agency to make that happen. Rehearsing takes the most of our time so there is not much time over to search for gigs. We're very excited about the gig on Thursday anyway! Sommarrock have ads in many newspapers and posters are everywhere so there should be some people showing up =)

If you are gong to Svedala and bringing your camera or video camera, please share your photos whith us!

We will be giving away some demos, so look for us after the gig and you will get one!

See ya /Henrik
